Genesis Club Plugin 2.2 Features

by Russell

Version 2.2 of the Genesis Club Plugin comes with two new features and two enhancements

Mobile Responsive Videos

You can have your videos resize automatically according to the size of the device. This means your videos will look good on iPhone, iPad, MacBook and even PCs! For more see mobile responsive videos using FitVids

Add A Logo Into The Site Title

Typically adding a logo into the header involves some custom CSS or PHP. With Genesis Club Plugin 2.2 you just need to paste in the URL of your logo. For more see How To Add your logo into the blog title

Top Bar Enhancements

In the earlier versions of the plugin you had no real control over where the top bar appeared: either it was displayed on all pages, or on no pages. With this release the plugin creates more sensible default settings but allows you to override these defaults on a post-by-post or page-by-page basis.

Top Bar Defaults

The top bar is displayed on the home page, category and tag archive pages.

The top bar is not displayed on search results and author archive pages.

The top bar is displayed by default on single posts but you can suppress its appearance by setting a checkbox labelled do not show the top bar on this post in the Top Bar Settings section in the Page Editor

Footer Credits Styling Enhancements

In previous versions, you could only apply a single class to the footer credits and that class was applied to all footer credit widgets. This causes a problem where you have a different background color in the footer of a landing page a normal page on the site. For example, the footer background is a dark color on the site but say white on landing pages. If you set up the footer credits writing to be white then everything is fine on normal pages but on landing pages you end up with white text on a white background which is eligible.

In this release the footer credits class and the return to top link class have been moved on to the Footer Copyright Widget settings. This means that each footer widgets can have it own colors. So it the above example, the landing page footer widget can use dark text.

Also the light and dark classes have been set up as subdued colors so you can use them to create create contrast in links and text in footers with dark and light background colors respectively.

How To Get The Genesis Club Plugin

Members of the Genesis Club participate in crowdsourcing the features of the plugin and it is downloable from the member dashboard.
